20 bags of garbage found around the shores of Derwent Water, Lake District. ‘Let’s keep our Playground Clean!’

On Sunday the 23rd of June, the second event of the Envirotrek Series took place. 30 people collected 20 bags of garbage and other trash from the shores around Derwent Water. It was the first Envirotrek in the Lake District, organised by Respect the Mountains in cooperation with KEEN Footwear.

In the morning participants gathered at the Lakeside Tea Gardens in Keswick. Two different groups went out in search of rubbish and 100 kg of garbage was collected. All sort of things were found: a chair leg, a barbeque, lots of empty bottles and flip flops.

After the morning Clean Up, the participants enjoyed a lunch and meet other mountain lovers. Local businesses came together, such as Jam Event  Solutions and Shearwater Adventures.
The finder of the most original piece of rubbish won a pair of hiking shoes from KEEN Footwear. And the most enthusiastic garbage collector was rewarded with a Respect the Mountains necklace. In the afternoon participants could try ghyll scrambling or canoeing with the instructors of Shearwater Adventures. Both activities provided fun opportunities to enjoy the beautiful mountains of the Lake District.
